Administering Cisco Unified Communication Manager Course Overview

This 5-day entry-level course provides system administrators and networking professionals with an understanding of Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.0. Beginning with the concepts of IP telephony, including its function, features and configuration, it then looks at a wide range of supporting system concepts, such as clustering, the creation of phones and users, route plans, digit manipulation, media resources, and phone features.

Note that the course focuses on the administration of Cisco Unified Communications Manager and not a deployment or underlying network issues.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the Cisco Unified Communications Manager network, service, and features
  • Understand the importance of and configuration of redundancy and high availability in the enterprise network
  • Describe user configuration and the user web interface
  • Explain basic phone options and the use of BAT
  • Explain the route plan and on-net/off-net calling
  • Describe the various media resources, including conferencing and MOH

  • Describe the intracluster communications between the servers
  • Illustrate the scalability of a single cluster and the use of dedicated servers
  • Describe the 1:1 and 2:1 clustering options for redundancy and high availability
  • Discuss the hardware that is used to support the server software

Describing Deployment Models

  • Define the single-site deployment for a single cluster
  • Define the single-site, colocated deployment for the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition
  • Describe the centralized call-processing deployment for a single cluster with remote physical locations
  • Explain the distributed call-processing deployment for multiple clusters with multiple physical locations
  • Describe the distributed single cluster call-processing deployment for a single cluster in separated physical locations
  • Discuss the combination of the four deployments to provide a hybrid combination suitable for any specific organization
