Dundee is the fourth largest city in Scotland. It has a population of around 148,000 people and is located in the east central Lowland of the Firth of Tay. There are around 37 primary schools and 9 secondary schools in Dundee serving around 20,000 pupils. There is also a special school which caters for children with learning difficulties. Dundee College is the largest further education college in the city providing higher education such as A Levels and vocational courses. There are two universities in Dundee; The University of Dundee and Abertay University. The University of Dundee was established in 1881 and became an independent institute in 1967. The university provides a lot of research into the biomedical fields and contains of the top medical schools in the country. The Abertay University provides a range of courses including computing, creative technology and computer game design courses. Its most famous alumni include the creators of Grand Theft Auto. The biggest employers in Dundee are the NHS, Dundee City Council and the University of Dundee. Its employees mostly commute within thirty minutes of the city.
