Yes, the IOSH Working Safely training course includes an exam that must be passed in order to receive the IOSH certificate. The IOSH exam is designed to test the learner’s understanding of the course content and their ability to apply this knowledge in a workplace context.

The IOSH Working Safely certification exam typically consists of two parts: a multiple-choice test and a hazard spotting exercise. The IOSH Working Safely test should take 30 minutes and the passing mark is 30 out of 49. Part 1 contains 33 marks and the passing mark is 20 on the other hand part 2 contains 16 marks and the passing mark is 10.

If you fail the IOSH Working Safely certification exam, you will have the opportunity to retake the assessment. The exact process for retaking the exam may vary depending on the training provider delivering the course, but typically, participants will be given a set amount of time to review the study materials and prepare for the retake.

This course certification does not have an expiry date, however it is recommended that the course is repeated every 3-5 years as a refresher, to keep you up to date with the most recent developments in health and safety and to refresh your memory so you are continually working to the best of your health and safety ability.

To ensure that you are taking a genuine IOSH Working Safely Course, you should check that the training provider delivering the course is accredited by IOSH. Alternatively, you can ask the training provider to provide evidence of their accreditation and check this against the list of accredited providers on the IOSH website.
