Nottingham Trent University was founded in 1843 but only became a university in 1992 when the Nottingham Government School of Design was established. It is split over three different campuses across Nottingham.

The University of Nottingham is a public research university was founded in 1881 and has a variety of campuses in and around Nottingham, as well as some in China and Malaysia.
