Management of Value (MoV)® is a methodology focused on utilising resources to enhance project, programme, and portfolio benefits. This BCS accredited training course, provided by AXELOS, integrates a series of techniques and principles that focus on developing existing management processes by increasing value and making better use of resources.
Ultimately, MoV® is a guidance methodology, which concerns implementing measures to achieve increased value. MoV® methodology is designed so that it can mould into the systems and objectives of any organisation. This consequently allows project aims to be achieved. It has developed over a series of years, across many industries, and provides delegates with a wealth of knowledge relating to economic and noneconomic benefits. Delegates will acquire knowledge of various measures they could implement for the purpose of increased value of services or products.
MoV® relies on the effective assignment of budgets to ensure the correct amount of money is being spent in the right places, to maximise the chances of return. Utilising resources is of utmost importance as it enables funds to go further. This is essential when the economy is thriving, in order to keep pace with the times and remain a strong competitor.
On the other hand, when the economy is struggling it is necessary to cut funds cautiously to minimise damage done to the organisation. Increasing value is always the predominant goal, hence if projects are not achieving this then it is possible for them to be discontinued.
Many of MoV®’s principles correlate with those of PRINCE2®, MSP®, and M_o_R®. Links can be made with PRINCE2® due to its exercise of project management to accomplish business improvements. Likewise, similarities are identifiable with MSP®’s focus on transformative change and M_o_R®’s concentration on escalation of value. Further resemblance is evident with Lean, and Six Sigma somewhat, as they share the fundamentals of efficiency, customer value, and waste removal.

MoV® certifications are beneficial for individuals because of MoV®’s nature as a benefits management training course. Organisations are always searching for ways to gain more advantages, hence an MoV® certification makes individuals more employable as businesses desire their knowledge and skills.
MoV® certified individuals have an excellent understanding of what it takes to maximise value and get the best out of available resources. These individuals possess the necessary expertise to support and assist Benefit and Value Managers when making significant decisions, whilst ensuring stakeholder requirements are adhered to.
As well as this, individuals have the ability to direct financial and non-financial concepts towards increased value, whilst developing existing management processes so resources are controlled better. All of the above is valuable to employers, thus MoV® training is beneficial for individuals as it enhances their employment prospects.
The benefits of MoV® certifications for individuals include:
Ability to measure and maximise value
Capable of utilising resources
Ensure actions correspond with stakeholder demands
Maximise value without disregarding project objectives and processes
Enhances their employment opportunities
Excellent MoV® knowledge and understanding
Ability to support value and benefit Project Managers
Ensure stakeholder requirements are met
Can identify financial and non-financial elements
MoV® certifications are valuable to employers because if resources are utilised and increased value is achieved, the organisation can benefit profoundly. Making use of resources more effectively can result in cost savings and an acceleration in the speed of delivery, whilst maintaining project direction and high quality value. Thus, decreasing costs supplemented by rising returns is a huge advantage for organisations. Yet, MoV® does not only focus on the financial benefits.
MoV® methodology considers both financial and non-financial benefits, and ensures that a balance between the two is obtained. Once this has occurred, it means high value has been achieved. MoV® also recognises the importance of stakeholder requirements, hence MoV® can benefit employers by assuring the dissimilar needs of stakeholders are catered for.
Additionally, as MoV® concentrates quite extensively on quality performance, the subject of innovation is relevant. Employees will have the necessary skills to suggest innovative ideas that have the potential to increase organisation value.
The benefits of MoV® certifications for businesses and employers include:
Make resources go further
Faster delivery of services or products
Creation of new services or products for the purpose of increased value
Experience benefits whilst sustaining project objectives
Financial and non-financial benefits
Meet the demands of stakeholders
The MoV® training courses provided by The Knowledge Academy are accredited by BCS on behalf of AXELOS, and are based on the HM Government’s Best Practice Guide on Management of Value.
MoV® training is divided into two levels: Foundation and Practitioner. Both training courses are two days in length, hence are fairly intense and require delegates to complete at least fifteen hours of prior work. We recommend that delegates also make themselves familiar with the content of the MoV® guide, particularly the glossary so that they feel confident with Management of Value terminology. As well as this, delegates will need to complete at least two hours of homework per evening.
The Knowledge Academy offers MoV® Foundation and Practitioner courses separately, or as one combined course. The integrated MoV® Foundation and Practitioner training course is four days long, and enables delegates to acquire both MoV® certifications at once. Two days will be spent looking at MoV® Foundation, and the remaining two days will focus on MoV® Practitioner. Likewise, the Foundation examination will be taken in the afternoon of the third day, and the MoV® Practitioner exam will be sat on the final day of the training course.
Delegates will gain an understanding of the MoV® guidance, which is all about the growth of value relating to organisation objectives. The teaching will consist of accelerated learning techniques and the use of case studies to ensure delegates possess detailed knowledge of the MoV® methodology and the skills to apply such methods to a real scenario.
The Knowledge Academy also offers MoV® Foundation and Practitioner training courses separately. Therefore, delegates have the freedom to decide whether they want to complete the certifications together or individually at different times. This is also useful because delegates may only need to complete the Foundation level for their job role.
The MoV® Foundation training course is designed to ensure delegates acquire adequate knowledge and understanding of the MoV® guidance, including key terms and principles. The Foundation certification enables individuals to define MoV® to other people who may not possess an understanding of the methodology. As well as this, MoV® Foundation training allows candidates to become active members of MoV® teams, and this certification places individuals in a good position to execute further training in the realm of benefit and value management.
The MoV® Practitioner training course is based on granting candidates the necessary skills to adjust and implement MoV® techniques to a real scenario and working environment. The Practitioner aims to build on knowledge, and provide delegates with the confidence and ability to enforce MoV® methodology in any situation. Factors considered will include an individual’s experience, the complexity of the circumstances, and the support network an individual is surrounded by.
