What is ISO 27001

ISO 27001 is an information security standard. The latest version of this was published in 2013, the previous version having been published in 2005. ISO 27001 is published by the International Organisation for Standardisation and the International Electrotechnical Commission, also known as ISO and IEC. This was under the joint ISO and IEC subcommittee, ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 27. It is a specification for an Information Security Management Team, otherwise known as ISMS. After the completion of a successful audit process, if they meet the standard, companies can gain an official certification.
