The Rise of Virtual Training Courses

Modern technology impacts much of our lives, with training being no exception. Online training, or eLearning, has really taken off in the last few years due to its benefits for employers, learners and training providers.

According to Global Market Insights, the global eLearning market value will reach $200bn by 2024, while Orbis Research believe it will reach $275.10bn by 2022. When employees who use eLearning typically take 40-60% less time to complete their training than classroom learners, it’s no surprise that companies are seeing a clear benefit in training their employees using online methods.

The phrase ‘eLearning’ covers a wide variety of training methods, from online self-paced courses to virtual reality training. But the most exciting innovation for us is virtual training.

Traditional online learning, while convenient, eliminates the instructor entirely, which may not be the best choice for complex topics or those based on interacting with people. Companies like Verizon understand the importance of having an instructor and take a 'blended' approach to learning methods. They decide on the best delivery method according to the topic - if it's fairly straightforward, they use eLearning; if it requires an instructor, they use classroom or virtual training.

We see virtual training as the perfect hybrid between classroom and online, bringing the benefits of both.

What is Virtual Training?

So, what is virtual training, and why is it beneficial? Virtual Training is a combination of eLearning and classroom training. Like in a classroom, it is led by a trainer, but the instructor teaches over the internet using a microphone and webcam, meaning learners can be in any location across the world. Virtual training is typically facilitated using conferencing software designed specifically for the demands of online communication.

It allows learners to talk to their instructor in real time, ask questions and discuss material all without having to be physically present.

Virtual Training also allows you to continue the learning offline. Subject matter experts are available outside of training hours to allow you to ask questions and clarify any things you may be unsure about.

Why Virtual?

Here at The Knowledge Academy, we’ve been gradually moving towards running a greater number of courses virtually, including virtual PRINCE2 courses (if you want to find out more about project management, read our basic guide). Just select ‘Virtual’ in the delivery bar above any of our schedules to see our virtual dates.

So why did we make this move?

More courses in more locations

Without having to worry about booking venues and ensuring there are enough delegates, we can run more courses than ever before, with a smaller chance of cancellation. And since we don’t require a physical presence, we can teach delegates across the world – as long as there’s an internet connection, the possibilities are endless.

Better access to trainers

There are excellent trainers all over the globe, but they can’t always travel to you. Virtual training means we don’t have to worry about that; we can use subject matter experts from anywhere. This means they can pass their knowledge on to you so that everyone can benefit from world-class teaching.

It costs less for everyone

Because we don’t need to book a physical location, virtual courses cost less to run. We can pass this saving on to you with lower prices.
