What is the Status of the NHS Pay Rise for 2024/25?
We are currently in Stage 2 - Evaluation of the Evidence. The NHS Pay Review Body is now reviewing both oral and written evidence as they prepare their report for the UK Government.
The Process for NHS Pay Recommendations
Here’s a brief overview of the process for determining NHS pay recommendations:
a) Stage 0: The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care asks the independent NHS Pay Review Body (NHSPRB) to make pay recommendations for the next year.
b) Stage 1: Various stakeholders, including health unions, NHS organisations, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), and the Treasury, submit evidence to the NHSPRB. This evidence covers workforce conditions, recruitment and retention issues, and economic factors.
c) Stage 2: The NHSPRB reviews the submitted evidence and conducts its own research.
d) Stage 3: The NHSPRB usually releases their annual report at the end of March. However, due to the pandemic and a three-year pay deal, this has been delayed to June in recent years.
e) Stage 4: After the report is published, the Government can either accept the NHSPRB’s recommendations or choose to implement their own pay solution.
