Probability and Statistics for Data Science Training Course Overview

Probability and statistics form the foundational pillars of data science, providing the necessary tools for understanding uncertainty, variability, and making informed decisions based on data. This training course delves into the fundamental concepts of probability and statistics, emphasising their crucial role in the field of data science. Delegates will explore how these concepts contribute to the extraction of meaningful insights and patterns from data.

Understanding probability and statistics is essential for professionals in the data science domain. Data scientists, analysts, and decision-makers rely on these principles to draw accurate conclusions and predictions from data. Mastery of probability allows for the quantification of uncertainty, while statistics enables the analysis of data patterns and trends.

This 2-day training will empower the delegates with the skills to apply probability and statistics in practical data science scenarios. They will learn key concepts such as probability distributions, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis. The course provides a comprehensive understanding of statistical methods, enabling professionals to make informed decisions and predictions based on data

Course Objectives

  • To represent and analyse uncertain phenomena using a framework
  • To quantify the outcome of the experiment as belonging to a specific event
  • To assign probabilities to each occurrence of interest and an experiment
  • To become accustomed to Markov chains and different statistical types
  • To generate samples from the appropriate conditional distribution
  • To evaluate the occurrence of a particular event that influences another event

Upon completion of this course, the delegates will possess a strong foundation in probability and statistics for data science. They will be equipped with the tools and techniques needed to analyse data effectively, make informed decisions, and contribute meaningfully to data-driven projects within their organisations.

Nottingham is a city in Nottinghamshire, England and is around 30 miles south of Sheffield. Nottingham is most famous for its affiliation with Robin Hood and for its industries of bike and lace making and tobacco. Its population is around 310,000 people making it the second largest city in the Midlands. Schools in Nottingham are governed by the unitary authority of Nottingham and the Nottingham City Council. There are a large number of primary and secondary schools in Nottingham, including Alderman White School, The Holgate Academy, Rushcliffe School, Tuxford Academy, Serlby Park Academy and The Oakwood Academy.

There are several colleges, most of which were formed by the merging of lots of different smaller colleges. For example, Central College was formed when South Nottingham College and Castle College merged and New College was created when four small colleges joined together. There are several smaller academies and sixth-form colleges for educational purposes also. Independent schools also thrive in Nottingham; Nottingham High School was founded in 1513 and is the city’s oldest educational institute. There are two universities in Nottingham, the Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham. These universities have a combined student population of around 61,000. Nottingham Trent University was founded in 1843 but only became a university in 1992 when the Nottingham Government School of Design was established. It is split over three different campuses across Nottingham.

The University of Nottingham is a public research university was founded in 1881 and has a variety of campuses in and around Nottingham, as well as some in China and Malaysia. It is most famous for its teaching in economics, law and pharmaceuticals as well as its teaching hospital, the Queen’s Medical Centre which is located outside Nottingham but still in the same county. Notable alumni include David Ross, co-founder of Carphone Warehouse, actress Ruth Wilson, actor Theo James and Nobel Prize winner Sir Clive Granger.
