Aberdeen, also known as the Granite City, the Silver City with the Golden Sands and the Grey city, is the third most populated city in Scotland with a population of 196,670 people.
The city was given these nicknames due to the fact that the buildings in Aberdeen during the mid-20th century were partially made using locally sourced grey granite which sparkles like silver. Other nicknames include the Energy Capital of Europe and the Oil Capital of Europe because North Sea oil was discovered there in the 1970s.
There is stunning scenery in Aberdeen, making it a perfect place to take our most popular courses at The Knowledge Academy, such as PRINCE2, Scrum and ITIL. With its vintage, authentic buildings, delegates can take their course feeling comfortable with enjoyable surroundings.
There has been human settlement in Aberdeen for 8,000 years at least. Originally, two separate burghs existed: New Aberdeen and Old Aberdeen. However, Old Aberdeen was combined with New Aberdeen in 1891.
Although Aberdeen used to be home to textile mills, the oil industry and fishing, these industries have now been developed over the years. Now, major parts of Aberdeen’s economy which have been responsible for its economic boom are research in fishing, the oil industry and agriculture and high developments in electronic design.
There are two universities in Aberdeen: the University of Aberdeen and the Robert Gordon University, both of which offer many different courses to students.
The University of Aberdeen was originally named King’s College and was built many years ago in 1495. Over the years, it has begun to offer more and more courses to students. Now, the university has several subject fields so that students are guaranteed to find a course to suit them. Courses range from geology to accountancy to music to chemistry to film and visual culture, meaning that everybody can find a course to interest them, just like with The Knowledge Academy - we have a course for everyone.
The Robert Gordon University also offers hundreds of courses (again, just like The Knowledge Academy). They have courses in almost every subject field, ranging from chemotherapy to figure drawing to physiotherapy to therapeutic photography. The Knowledge Academy also offers subjects in many fields, such as project management, IT skills and computing.
