What Happens If You Do Not Renew Your PMP® Certification?

PMP® Certification follows a three-year certification cycle. During this period, you need to earn and report the required 60 PDUs and complete the renewal process to maintain an active certification status.

If you do not satisfy the CCR requirements within your current cycle, PMI places your certification in suspended status for one year. During this period, you cannot refer to yourself as a PMP® Certification holder or use the PMP® designation, but you can still complete the outstanding requirements and renew.

If you do not complete the renewal process during the one-year suspension period, your certification moves to expired status. To become PMP-certified again, PMI requires you to submit a new application, pay the applicable fees, and retake the examination.
