Eligibility Criteria for PMI-PBA® Certification

The eligibility requirements for PMI-PBA® Certification are as follows:

1) Secondary Degree, High School Diploma, associate degree, or Global Equivalent:

1) Minimum 60 months of business analysis experience within the last eight years.

2) Minimum 35 contact hours of education in business analysis.

OR

2) Bachelor's degree or Higher (or Global Equivalent):

1) Minimum 36 months of business analysis experience within the last 8 years. 

2) Minimum 35 contact hours of education in business analysis.

OR

3) Bachelor's or Postgraduate Degree from a GAC-Accredited Programme:

1) Minimum 24 months of unique, non-overlapping professional business analysis experience within the last eight years.

2) Minimum 35 contact hours of formal education.

Candidates who graduate from a degree programme accredited by PMI's Global Accreditation Center (GAC) receive a 12-month credit towards the work experience requirement, reducing the standard bachelor's-degree pathway from 36 to 24 months. Eligible GAC coursework may also count towards the required 35 contact hours of business analysis education.

What is CBAP® Certification?

The CBAP® certification is a professional credential for experienced Business Analysts, awarded by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA). It validates their ability to perform business analysis tasks and responsibilities effectively. 

Eligibility Criteria for CBAP® Certification

The eligibility criteria for the CBAP® Certification are as follows:

a) Candidates must have at least 7,500 hours of business analysis work experience within the last 10 years. This experience should relate to business analysis activities and responsibilities.

b) Candidates must complete a minimum of 900 hours in at least four of the six knowledge areas defined in the BABOK® Guide. Overall, experience across these knowledge areas should total at least 3,600 hours.

c) Candidates must complete at least 35 hours of Professional Development training within the last four years. Additionally, applicants are required to provide two professional references who have known them for at least six months. These can include a CBAP® or CCBA® credential holder, career manager or internal or external client. 

References must provide a work email address. Applicants must also agree to IIBA's Code of Ethical Conduct and Professional Standards and its certification and recertification terms and conditions.
