Created by The Open Group, ArchiMate® is a modelling language for Enterprise Architecture that aims to provide a simple yet comprehensive approach to structuring organisations in order to attain maximum efficiency. Translating vision into strategy, the ArchiMate® language relies on the core concepts of active structure elements, behaviour elements, and passive structure elements to manage business processes and technical infrastructure. Integrating easily with TOGAF®, ArchiMate® can be used to augment organisational structures, information flows, and much more.
Created in 2002 and developed over several years by the Telematica Instituut in the Netherlands, the ArchiMate® language became the property of The Open Group (http://www.opengroup.org/) in 2008 and has grown from its humble beginnings into a modelling language used in more than 150 countries all over the world. Good at modelling high level business entities, ArchiMate® is compatible with TOGAF® 9.1 while complementing languages like Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) and Unified Modelling Language (UML), making it easy to use, understand, and integrate into existing systems.
Ultimately, ArchiMate® provides instruments for Enterprise Architects to understand, visualise and, actuate relationships between business domains through its clear, simple language. Covering three layers, Business, Application, and Technology, ArchiMate® provides a comprehensive approach to structuring any enterprise. Moreover, its three core concepts, active structure elements, behaviour elements, and passive structure elements, are based on the natural structure and syntax of language, allowing ArchiMate® to be easily understood and implemented. This communicability allows stakeholders to understand and evaluate the consequences of potential changes, as well as how best to pursue the enterprise’s goals.
As The Knowledge Academy is accredited by The Open Group, our comprehensive and globally recognised ArchiMate® 3 training courses will allow Enterprise Architects to learn practical and easily accessible methods of implementing ArchiMate® 3 within their organisations - as well as the benefits of doing so.

This ArchiMate® 3 Foundation course aims to furnish delegates with a basic understanding of the terms, concepts, notation, and structure of the ArchiMate® modelling language. It teaches delegates how to understand the core elements of ArchiMate® to benefit their approach to Enterprise Architecture, focusing on basic comprehension. This ArchiMate® 3 Foundation course is designed to help prepare delegates for taking the ArchiMate® 3 Part 1 examination (link to supporting content exam page), which tests an individual’s theoretical knowledge of the ArchiMate® modelling language and associated concepts. There are no formal pre-requisites to taking this course, though passing the ArchiMate® 3 Part 1 examination is required before undertaking the ArchiMate® Part 2 examination.
A natural successor to the ArchiMate® 3 Foundation course, this ArchiMate® 3 Practitioner course is designed to give delegates a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of using the ArchiMate® modelling language in practical situations, meaning that delegates who successfully pass the ArchiMate® 3 Part 2 examination will gain official ArchiMate® 3 certification as proof of their ability to utilise ArchiMate® in real-world situations. This course is aimed at delegates who intend to develop architecture artifacts or enhance their existing Enterprise Architecture by applying ArchiMate® language notation at an advanced level, and will also introduce the more advanced concepts of the ArchiMate® modelling language.
As ArchiMate® 3 is supported by various tool vendors and consulting firms, ArchiMate® 3 certification will increase an individual’s employability prospects across a wide range of organisations, not just large businesses. Additionally, as ArchiMate® itself works with Enterprise Architecture frameworks like TOGAF® and complements languages such as Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) and Unified Modelling Language (UML), our courses imbue individuals with a skillset that is inherently diverse and useful in a variety of areas.
