Brussels is the capital city of Belgium. The city has a population of over 1.2 million and the metropolitan area has over 1.8 million people. Belgium is the headquarters of NATO. There are two main Universities in Brussels: Universite Libre de Bruxelles and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The Universite Libre de Bruxelles houses over 20,000 students and is primarily a French speaking University. It has three campuses in the city and two others outside. Vrije Universiteit Brussels is a Dutch speaking University with around 10,000 students. Both Universities originate from one Ancestor University which was founded in 1834 and was split in 1970. Brussels also houses varies other campuses such as the Universite Catholique de Louvain and the Brussels School of International Studies.
