7,500 hours of experience leading and directing projects, or 3 years of professional project management experience (equivalent to 4,500 hours of leading/directing a project).

The PMP certification exam is provided by The Project Management Institute (PMI)® which must be arranged after you have completed the required 35 contact hours. Exam is not included with the PMP course fee and will need to be purchased separately.

  • 200 MCQs. 175 are scored questions and 25 are unscored, pre-test questions (these do not get counted towards your final score)
  • 4 hours to complete the exam with no scheduled breaks
  • The PMP certification exam is in English however if you require additional language aids, they are provided in 14 other languages at no extra cost
  • A calculator is provided (you may not bring your own)

The exam covers 3 key areas in Project Management. The percentages detail what percentage of the questions are covered in each area:

  1. People (42%)
  2. Process (50%)
  3. Business Environment (8%)

Total – 100%

The pass mark is not set. It is dependent on how you answer questions that are of varying levels of difficulty. Please do not confuse the pass mark with being 61%; it was previously 61% but is no longer a set percentage.

From the date you pass your PMP certification exam, you have three years to earn 60 PDUs. Every subsequent three years also requires a further 60 PDUs. One Professional Development Unit is equivalent to one hour of learning or activity in Project management. You can achieve your 60 PDUs with further education, organising meetings, watching videos, participation in online or digital media.

To apply for the online PMP certification exam, The Project Management Institute (PMI)® requires that you have either:

  • A four-year degree (Bachelor’s or Global degree), 4,500 hours leading or directing projects, and 35 hours of project management education
  • A Secondary Degree (High school diploma or equivalent), 7,500 hours leading or directing projects, and 35 hours of project management education
  • Please note, this PMP Certification course provides you with 37.5 hours of project management education, therefore filling the last criterion for the two prerequisite options

Passing the PMP exam can be challenging if you don’t dedicate enough time and effort to prepare for it. You will need to complete the PMP course and take all the required tests to build competency. Scoring at least 80% in the mock test is important to have a real chance in passing the actual exam.
If you fail to meet the audit requirements for the PMP exam, your certification fee will be refunded after deducting the processing fee. In case you fail the certification audit, $100 will be deducted from your application fee and you’ll receive the rest of the fee as refund.
The passing score for the PMP exam used to be 61% earlier. With the new exam format, the passing score hasn’t been disclosed. It is different for every candidate now and depends on the level of questions the candidate attempts.
After registering for the PMP exam, you have a year to give the exam. In the year you can give as many as three attempts. You have to pay the exam fee for each of your attempts, i.e., $275 for PMI members and $375 for non-PMI members.
After you’ve finished your training, you will need to contact PearsonVUE to schedule your PMP exam. You can choose any applicable slot according to your convenience.
