Salt Lake City is situated in the Wasatch Front within the north-central part of Utah, as well as it being the capital city of Utah is also one of two major urban areas within the Great Basins. SLC or Salt Lake as the city is otherwise known is the most populated city with Utah as it is home to an estimated 1,153,340 people as of 2014 as well as having a metropolitan population of around 2,423,912 people. Salt Lake City has 23 elementary, 5 middle and 3 high schools as well as a charter school. In 1847 the first classes for children within the Mormon families was held in a tent and now today salt city lake includes a number of catholic schools which include Rowland Hall-St. Mark's School which is Salt Lake City’s premier independent school and Judge Memorial Catholic High School. Some of the universities and colleges within Salt Lake City includes the LDS Business College, Westminster College, University of Utah, The Art Institute of Salt Lake City and the Salt Lake Community College. The University of Utah is renowned for the medical and research programs they run as well as holding the first artificial heart transplant within 1982 and it also worked alongside three other universities with ARPANET in 1969 where pioneer Ivan Sutherland had moved within the Computer Science department.
