Who should attend?

This Praxis Framework™ Foundation and Practitioner certification is designed for anyone interested in acquiring an understanding of the Praxis framework. Those involved in the management of Projects, Programmes, and Portfolios will benefit from this training course.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites, thus anyone can attend. However, successful completion of the Foundation examination is required before moving on to the Practitioner section of this Praxis Framework™ course.

Praxis Framework™ Foundation and Practitioner Overview

In recent times the realm of P3 Management has expanded rapidly, and in response, the Praxis framework has been developed. Praxis functions to integrate all three disciplines of Project, Programme, and Portfolio Management. This comprehensive five-day training course will allow delegates to gain a thorough understanding of the Praxis methodology. Training will explore the four core sections of the Praxis Framework™, which are Knowledge, Method, Competence, and Capability Maturity. The familiarity of these four components is fundamental to acquiring a well-rounded awareness of the Praxis approach.

The first module of this Praxis Framework™ Foundation and Praxis Framework™ Practitioner training course will study the concept of ‘Knowledge’. The significance of environment will be explored, and the way in which the complexity of projects, programmes, and portfolios makes it difficult to differentiate completely between the three is highlighted. Likewise, contextual, and managerial notions feature throughout this portion, whereby delegates will become familiar with the influence of certain circumstances on projects, programmes, and portfolios. Similarly, the practice of management, including interpersonal techniques and aspects such as risk and scope will also be areas of focus.

Secondly, the ‘Method’ section will provide delegates with an essential knowledge of Praxis Process Models and documentation. All project and programme, delivery, and portfolio processes will be examined, as they utilise functional tools and mechanisms, and supply an approach centred around the life cycle. The course continues to explain governance, scope, and delivery documentation, as well as management plans, all of which are central to the effective governance of a project, programme, or portfolio.

Praxis Training

The third core element of Praxis Framework™ Training is known as ‘Competence’. There are three competencies described in Praxis, which must be altered and tailored depending on the business environment. The first competency is linked to delivery within the knowledge component, the second corresponds with the individual processes as shown in the method section, and the third competency addresses the interpersonal skills as outlined in the knowledge element. Competencies are highly relevant to individuals wishing to succeed in a P3 (Projects, Programmes, and Portfolios) Managerial position.

The fourth module taught during this Praxis Framework™ Foundation and Practitioner course is ‘Capability Maturity’. This is a model that provides guidance for delivering projects, programmes, and portfolios successfully. Capability Maturity is a flexible approach that can be examined both internally and externally. Therefore, it can easily be adjusted to different contexts whilst remaining consistent to permit differentiation between contrasting organisations. This concludes the Foundation section of Praxis Framework™ Foundation and Practitioner training.

Following a thorough exploration of these vital Praxis components, we move onto the Practitioner section. This part will benefit delegates by focussing on the practical implementation of Praxis and the relationship between the four core practice elements of Praxis. Praxis has several links to other prominent Project and Programme Management frameworks, namely PRINCE2® and MSP®. This is since all three methodologies are based on a life cycle, which passes through multiple phases. This is also a topic that will be examined during the Practitioner portion of this course.

The Knowledge Academy's five-day training course will help you gain the full Praxis Framework Certification and allow delegates to adopt this project management framework to any given complex scenario.

Who should attend?

This Praxis Framework™ Foundation certification is suitable for anyone interested in acquiring a basic understanding of the Praxis framework. Those involved in the management of Projects, Programmes, and Portfolios may benefit from this training course. The content covered in this course is highly relevant to individuals wishing to succeed in a P3 (Projects, Programmes, and Portfolios) Managerial position.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites, hence anyone can attend.

Praxis Framework™ Foundation Overview

This three-day training course aims to provide delegates with a foundational understanding of the Praxis Framework™. Praxis is a methodology that has been developed in response to the recent expansion of P3 Management. It is a unique framework that amalgamates all three elements of Project, Programme, and Portfolio Management. During this Praxis Framework™ Foundation training course, delegates will be introduced to all four pivotal features that comprise the Praxis framework. These are Knowledge, Method, Competence, and Capability Maturity. Upon completion of this course, delegates will have gained an awareness of the Praxis Framework™ and these four components.

This Praxis Framework™ Foundation training course begins by covering the concept of ‘Knowledge’. This module explores the complexity of projects, programmes, and portfolios, and demonstrates how this attribute makes it difficult to differentiate between them. Furthermore, contextual and managerial notions are explained and delegates will become familiar with the influence of certain conditions upon projects, programmes, and portfolios within organisations. To provide a complete overview of this Praxis component, this course will also cover the practice of management, including interpersonal techniques.

Following ‘Knowledge’ is the ‘Method’ section of the course, which will cover essential aspects of Praxis Process Models and documentation. All project and programme, delivery, and portfolio processes will be studied, as they utilise functional tools and mechanisms, and provide an approach centred around the life cycle. Our instructors will move on to demonstrate the importance of governance, scope, and delivery documentation, and management plans. These are crucial to consider to ensure the effective governance of a project, programme, or portfolio.

The third part of Praxis is ‘Competence’. There are three competencies described in Praxis, which will be described and explained. The first competency is linked to delivery within the knowledge component, the second corresponds with the individual processes as shown in the method section, and the third competency addresses the interpersonal skills as outlined in the knowledge element. These competencies should be changed in order to be adopted by an organisation, with consideration of their specific business environment.

The fourth element taught during this Praxis Framework™ Foundation and Praxis Framework™ Practitioner course is ‘Capability Maturity’. This is a model that guides organisations through the process of delivering projects, programmes, and portfolios effectively. Capability Maturity is flexible and adaptable and should be considered both internally and externally. It can be altered in order to correspond to different contexts, but it can also remain consistent so as to allow for comparison between contrasting organisations. After studying this module, delegates will have completed the Praxis Framework™ Foundation course and will have gained a fundamental understanding of the Praxis Framework™.

If delegates are interested in completing both Foundation and Practitioner levels simultaneously, then this can be achieved through The Knowledge Academy with our Praxis Framework™ Foundation and Practitioner course.

Who should attend?

This Praxis Practitioner certification is designed for those wishing to enhance their knowledge of the Praxis framework. Those involved in the management of Projects, Programmes, and Portfolios will benefit from this training course.

Prerequisites

In order to acquire this Praxis Practitioner certification, delegates must have completed the Praxis Foundation training course and examination.

Praxis Practitioner Overview

This engaging two-day Praxis Practitioner training course will build on knowledge acquired during the Praxis Foundation course. The Practitioner section focuses more extensively on the practical implementation of Praxis within an organisation, thus it is perfect for delegates who are looking to apply their understanding in a hands-on manner.

Praxis Practitioner will begin with a revision of what was covered in the Praxis Framework™ Foundation course, to refresh delegate’s knowledge of the four core elements, Knowledge, Method, Competence, and Capability Maturity. This review will provide delegates with a strong starting point with which to develop their knowledge. Following this, the tailoring of Praxis to organisations will be a sufficient area of focus, as delegates will gain an understanding of how to adapt the Praxis framework to their own business.

As well as this, Praxis Practitioner will explore the roles and responsibilities of the Project Manager, Programme Manager, and Portfolio Manager. When merging all three, the P3 Manager is born, and hence will be studied during this section.

Praxis links effectively to other notable Project and Programme Management frameworks, namely PRINCE2® and MSP®. This is due to the fact that all three methodologies are based on a life cycle, which passes through multiple phases, hence this will also be a subject of focus during Praxis Practitioner. Delegates will learn how they can gain and benefit from using Praxis in conjunction with alternative Project Management structures.

Finally, the relationship between the four core Praxis elements, (Knowledge, Method, Competence, and Capability Maturity) will be examined, whereby delegates will acquire an understanding of how the concepts correlate and correspond to each other.

If delegates are interested in completing both Foundation and Practitioner levels simultaneously, then this can be achieved through The Knowledge Academy with our Praxis Framework™ Foundation and Practitioner course.

Mapping of the Praxis syllabus topics demonstrates a broader P3 knowledge and understanding is required than that of PRINCE2®MSP® and IPMA Level D or equivalent (e.g. APM PMQ).

For candidates who currently hold a Foundation certification in PRINCE2 or MSP, or IPMA Level D or equivalent, and wish to gain Praxis Practitioner certification, additional knowledge and understanding is required in a broad range of subjects. The coverage of syllabus topics varies greatly between these P3 products. In some cases:

  • All of these products cover a topic in a similar way, e.g. risk management and organization management, but with slight differences in terminology and complexity.
  • Syllabus topics are only covered by one or two of the products, e.g. PRINCE2 and MSP cover the P3 process but, for example, APM PMQ does not, APM PMQ covers interpersonal skills but PRINCE2 and MSP do not.
  • Syllabus topics are not covered by any of the products, e.g. finance management and change management.

For candidates who currently hold a FoundationPractitioner or Professional certification in PRINCE2, a FoundationPractitioner or Advanced Practitioner in MSP, or IPMA Level D or equivalent, and wish to gain Praxis Framework Practitioner certification, additional knowledge and understanding is required. The Praxis Framework Bridging course is aimed at this audience. The Praxis Framework Bridging course is designed to fill the gap(s) in candidates understanding, which will vary depending on their certification, and explain the key difference and similarities, where they exist, between the Praxis framework and these P3 products.

Candidates that currently hold a Practitioner level certification will obviously have an advantage over those that currently hold a Foundation level certification. The duration of the Praxis Bridging course is 3 days, including time for the Practitioner exam to be sat.
