Salt Lake City is situated in the Wasatch Front within the north-central part of Utah, as well as it being the capital city of Utah is also one of two major urban areas within the Great Basins. SLC or Salt Lake as the city is otherwise known is the most populated city with Utah as it is home to an estimated 1,153,340 people as of 2014 as well as having a metropolitan population of around 2,423,912 people. The University of Utah is renowned for the medical and research programs they run as well as holding the first artificial heart transplant within 1982 and it also worked alongside three other universities with ARPANET in 1969 where pioneer Ivan Sutherland had moved within the Computer Science department.
