Baton Rouge is the capital of the state of Louisiana, it has an estimated population of 230,000 people. The name of the city means “Red Stick” in French. Education in the USA is provided by both public and private schools, and is mandatory until the age of 16. Louisiana State University is a public university with an enrollment of 32,000 students and 1,300 faculty members. It was founded in 1853 as a military academy. It is now officially known as Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College. The college has schools in agriculture, art and design, engi9neering and science.
