Strasbourg is a city based in the Alsace region of France. It is estimated that the current population of Strasbourg is somewhere around the 272,000 mark – with the largest proportion made up of residents aged 15-29 years old, and is spread over 30.22 square miles of land. Education in France is a highly organised system that branches out into a large number of subdivisions; the three main categories are as follows: primary, secondary, higher, ‘licence’ & ‘licence professionelle’ (bachelor’s degree), ‘master’ (master’s degree), and ‘doctorat’ (a doctorate’s degree). In France, university names are most commonly derived from city names near to the location of the establishment; for example, Paris retains a total of thirteen universities and these are all named from ‘Paris I’ through to ‘Paris XIII’. Strasbourg is home to three universities, namely Strasbourg I (Louis Pasteur University), Strasbourg II (Marc Bloch University), and Strasbourg III (Robert Schuman University).
