The primary industries in this area are the food processing and textiles industries. The current unemployment rate in Burkina Faso doubled between 2013 and 2014. It went from 3.3 to 6.6, this was an all-time high for the country. The literacy rate in Ouagadougou isn’t high but there are still 2 universities in the city. University of Ouagadougou is the larger of the two and was founded in 1974. It has around 40,000 students which is about 85% of the nation university students.
