With a population of over 26,000, the city of Victoria is located on the north eastern side of the Mahe Island and is the capital city of Seychelles. The city has a close proximity to a large harbour and therefore tuna fishing and canning forms a large part of its local industry. The city is home to the University of Seychelles, which was founded in 2009. It is split into three campuses offering a wide variety of courses and qualifications, however it is especially known for its teaching in technology and business. This University is also home to the American Institute of Medicine which has a subsequent US residency rate of 90% and caters to students from over 20 countries. The city also has its own Natural History Museum, a collection of botanical gardens and some stunning local beaches, making it a popular destination for tourists.
