Dammam is the capital city of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The judicial and administrative bodies of the province are found in the city. Dammam has an estimated population of around 1.05 million people. The unemployment rate of Saudi Arabia has remained unchanged between 2014 and 2015. It stayed at 5.7 percent. Between 1999 and 2014 the average rate of unemployment in the country was 5.5 percent. Saudi Arabia’s all time high unemployment rate is 6.3 percent in 2006 and the lowest rate was 4.4 percent in 1999. Dammam is home to a number of universities including the University of Dammam which was founded in 1975. It started with two colleges, Medicine and Architecture/Planning.
