Karachi is the largest and most populous city in Pakistan and the national capital of the country. It is the 2nd largest city in the world by population with an estimated 24 million residents. It reach a national high in 2002 when it hit 7.8 percent of the total labour work force out of work. The lowest rate ever recorded in Pakistan was 3.1 percent in the final quarter of 1987. The University of Karachi, known as KU, is Pakistan's largest university. It has 24,000 pupils enrolled at the school studying at one of the nine faculties. These include social sciences, education, engineering, law and Islamic studies.
