Ports Moresby is the capital city and the largest city in Papua New Guinea. It is also sometimes referred to as Moresby or Pom Town. The city has an estimated population of 365,000 people. The city was named in honour of the father of the first European man to see the city. The unemployment rate in has declined in recenjt years, as it went from 2.4 percent in 2012 to 2.1 percent in 2013. The average rate between 1991 and 2013 was 2.54 percent. During this time they experienced an all-time high in 1997 with 3.1 percent unemployment and a record low in 2008 of 1.9 percent. The two first universities, the Papua New Guinea University of Technology and the University of Papua New Guinea were both founded in 1965, while the other four were established more recently. Port Moresby is the home of the Pacific Adventist University.
