With a population of over 9,000,000, Lima is the capital city of Peru and is located in the central coastal part of the country. The oldest University in the New World, San Marcos University founded in 1551, can also be found in Lima. In addition to this, Lima has a great number of important higher education institutions such as the Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria, the Universidad Nacional Agraria la Molina and the Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal which is the second largest university in Peru. Notable figures from Lima include the ex-president Alberto Fujimori who was a University lecturer. Lima is also a prominent tourist destination for its many museums, rich cultural history exhibitions and its many sports venues
