Maputo is the capital and biggest city in Mozambique. It has an estimated population of around 1.8 million people. The unemployment rate in Mozambique has been decreasing in recent years. In the period between 2005 and 2007 it went from 18.7 percent to 17 percent. 18.7 was a national all-time high for their unemployment rate and 17 percent is a record low. Space in Mozambican universities is extremely limited; thus most pupils who complete pre-university school do not immediately proceed on to university studies.
