This is a reduction on the first quarter of the year when it stood at 8.7 percent, between 1983 and 2015 the average unemployment rate was 7.65 percent. The country's two main public universities are the University of Mauritius and University of Technology. Port Louis is the home of the University of Technology. This is a publicly funded university with a focus on the education of technological subjects.
