Taipa is an island in the Chinese Special Administrative Region of Macao. It has an estimated population of around 92,000 people. Unemployment in Macao has remained at 1.8 percent throughout 2015. Between 1996 and 2015 the average rate of unemployment was 4 percent. The record low rate for the country was 1.7 in 2014. Macao has a literacy rate of 94% and a net enrolment rate of 94% also. The Programme for International Student Assessment, a worldwide test of 15-year-old schoolchildren's scholastic performance coordinated by OECD, ranked Macau as the fifth and sixth in science and problem solving respectively. The University of Macao is located in Taipa. It is a public comprehensive university and the leading higher education institute of the region. It was founded in 1981 which makes it the oldest university in Macao. Lessons are mainly taught in English although some are taught in Chinese and Japanese. The school has seven faculties including, arts, humanities, business, education, law and social sciences.
