The Programme for International Student Assessment, a worldwide test of 15-year-old schoolchildren's scholastic performance coordinated by OECD, ranked Macau as the fifth and sixth in science and problem solving respectively. The University of Macao is located in Taipa. It is a public comprehensive university and the leading higher education institute of the region. It was founded in 1981 which makes it the oldest university in Macao. Lessons are mainly taught in English although some are taught in Chinese and Japanese. The school has seven faculties including, arts, humanities, business, education, law and social sciences.
