Between 1997 and 2013 the rate averaged around 8.35 and reached an all-time high of 108 percent in 2013. This trend shows a constant increase in the unemployment rate. One university in the city is the University of Bamako. This university was founded in 1996. it is also known as the University of Mali. The main faculties are the science and technology faculties, medical, humanities, arts, social science and law and public service faculties.
