Antananarivo is the biggest city and the capital of Madagascar. The larger urban area surrounding the city, known as Antananarivo-Renivohitra is the captial of the Analamanga region in the country. The unemployment rate in Madagascar went up in recent years to around 3.8 percent from 3.7 percent in previous years. Between 1995and 2010 the average rate of unemployment was 5.3 percent. The lowest rate of unemployment ever recorded was 3.7 percent. Most of the countries higher education system is located in Antananarivo, including the college of medicine and the University of Antananarivo. The three branches of the national public university are located at Antananarivo, Mahajanga and Fianarantsoa.
