Riga is the capital and biggest city in Latvia. It has an estimated population of around 640,000 people. It is home to more than a third of the country’s population. The unemployment rate of Latvia is around 9.8 percent as of the second quarter of 2015. This was a decrease from the first quarter when it stood at 10.2 percent. The average rate for 13 years before 2015 was around 11.75 percent. There are a number of higher education institutes in Riga. The oldest university in Latvia is the Riga Technical University that was founded in 1862. The school is best known as a business school but also offers courses in Architecture & Urban Planning, Building & Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology.
