Colombo is the largest city in Sri Lanka and also the capital city with a population of around 650,100. The city is situated on the Islands west coast and is a popular tourist destination as well as the Islands financial center. Colombo has some excellent public school, some are privately owned and the others are government owned, the schools date back to the 1800’s. Some of these old schools are the Anglican Bishops College, the Buddhist Ananda College, the Catholic St Joseph’s college and the Muslim Zahira College. The state universities in the city are the University of the Visual and performing arts and the University of Colombo.
