Bishkek is the biggest city in Kyrgyzstan and is also the capital of the country. It has an estimated population of around 1 million people. The unemployment rate currently stands at around 2.3 percent as of June 2015. This is a record low for the country and shows an improvement since the beginning of the decade. There are a number of universities in the area including a medical school (Kyrgyz State Medical Academy), technical university (Kyrgyz Technical University) and the state national university (Kyrgyz State National University). The latter is the oldest higher education facility in the country. It has 54 departments and around 22,000 pupils’ enrolled.
