Cork is a city in Ireland. It is located in the province of Munster as well as in the South-West Region of Ireland. It is estimated to have a population of nearly 120,000 inhabitants therefore making it the second largest city in the Ireland state. Education is very important in the city Cork. It has the highest per capita ratio with over 30,000 third level students with 1,200 PhD students. It is home to University College Cork (UCC) which was created in 1845 and now teaches over 15,000 students. The university offers courses in Arts, Commerce, Engineering, Law, Medicine, and Science. Since 2003 and 2013 it has been named "Irish University of the Year”. University College Cork is also notable for the Quadrangle in UCC. Cork is also home to Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) which was established in 1974 and teaches over 17,000 students. It specialises in Business, Computing and IT, Humanities and Engineering (Mechanical, Electronic, Electrical, and chemical); in 2007 and 2010 it was named "Institute of Technology of the Year".
