The university was established in the 1820s, has come under the control of the government. Port-au-Prince also has other educational institutions including vocational schools and international schools like Union School, founded in 1919, which is an American-style pre-college education. The Ministry of Education can also be located in Port-au-Prince at the Palace of Ministries.
