Rijeka is the third largest city in Croatia and is located near Kvarner Bay and has a population of around 128,700 people. The metropolitan area has a population of around 250,000 people. As well as Croatian, the other native language is Venetian. The University of Rijeka is located in the heart of Rijeka and has campuses throughout Primorje, Istria and Lika. The university is made up of four faculties, one art academy, four departments, a library and a student’s centre. The University was founded in 1973 and has around 20,000 students in attendance. The university offers courses in engineering, economics, philosophy, law and maritime studies.
