There is one public university in Guyana, the University of Guyana, which is located in Georgetown that was set up in 1963. The university offers courses in subject areas such as health science, technology and earth and environmental sciences. There is also 4 or 5 private universities in the country that are run by private companies often from outside of Guyana. There are 2 medical schools.
