Banjul, also known as the City of Banjul, is the capital city of Gambia. It has a population of 357,200 people. Banjul is home to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital campus of the University of the Gambia. An active hospital since it was built in 1853, it began accepting students in 2002. Drawing on both Western and Cuban medical systems, the hospital trains students in a number of medical professions, and is part of international research-studies examining malaria and hepatitis. There are three international schools located in Banjul, in addition to a number of primary and secondary schools. The unemployment rate is 22%.
