Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located off the south coast of Spain. It has an estimated population of 30,000 people. The official language is English but many residents also speak Spanish. The education system in Gibraltar follows the same curriculum as the English education system as it follows a three tier system and follows the key stage system. It is compulsory for children to attend school from the age of 4 where they enter in to first school and then at the age of 8 go on to middle school and then at 12 they go to secondary and sixth form until the age of 17-18 in order to sit GCSE’s and A-levels. There is one further education facility in Gibraltar, the Gibraltar College, and there are no full-time higher education facilities in this country. This means that all degree level students must study abroad. However due to their alliance with the UK students can follow the students loan procedure if studying at a university in the UK.
