Accra is the capital city of Ghana and is the biggest city in the country. It has an estimated population of 2.2 million people. The official language of Ghana is English. The basic education programme in Accra goes up tot Junior high School. There were roughly 65,000 pupils enrolled in Accra as of 2001, which is only half of the school aged pupils in the city. In 2010 this had risen to 95% of the school age children. The University of Ghana is located just outside of the city. This is the oldest university in the country as well as being the largest with 40,000 pupils enrolled here. The original emphasis was on liberal arts and science but this has since been revised to include more technological subjects.
