Paris is a city based in the Île-de-France region of France. It is estimated that the current population of Paris is somewhere around the 2,241,000 mark, which is spread over 40.7 square miles of land – making it the city with the largest population in the country. Tourism serves as a predominant factor in Paris’ economy, with world-famous attractions such as the Eiffel Tower and The Louvre drawing in tourists from all over the world. Education in France is a highly organised system that branches out into a large number of subdivisions; the three main categories are as follows: primary, secondary, higher, ‘licence’ & ‘licence professionelle’ (bachelor’s degree), ‘master’ (master’s degree), and ‘doctorat’ (a doctorate’s degree). In France, university names are most commonly derived from city names near to the location of the establishment; for example, Paris retains a total of thirteen universities and these are all named from ‘Paris I’ through to ‘Paris XIII’.
