Douala is the capital city of Cameroons richest region, the Littoral Region. It is also the biggest city in the country and the commercial capital due to it being the home of the country’s largest port. The unemployment rate in Cameroon has remained unchanged since 2011 at 3.8 percent which was a drop on previous years where it stood at 4.4 percent. 3.8 percent unemployment is a record low for the country. There are a number of nursery, primary and secondary education facilities in the city. There has been a rise in the number of private schools in the area in recent years as well as an increase in informal education facilities for those with primary school certificate or those with no education at all. The city of Douala is home to a number of higher education institutions including the University of Douala. There are around 40,000 pupils enrolled at the university that was founded in 1977. It provided courses in economics and commerce, technical training, industrial engineering, medicine and pharmaceutics.
