The Belarusian State University has over 38,000 students and was established in 1921 after delays due to the Polish Army occupying Minsk. The Belarusian State University was the first national University in Belarus. BSU offers students 56 specialities and more than 250 specialisations. Another University situated in Minsk is the Belarusian State Medical University. It was originally part of the Belarusian State University but became its own institute in 2001. The University currently has nearly 7000 students.
