Rio de Janeiro is located in the metropolitan area and is the second most populated. The city is the second largest city in Brazil and has a population of around 6,500,000 inhabitants. Rio has been ranked as the eighteenth largest city in the world. The city is home to various large industries including oil, mining and telecommunications. Rio is home to world famous landmarks for example Christ the Redeemer (one of the seven wonders). The university has over 55,000 students and 9,000 staff members. The Latin American university is a centre of excellence with its teaching practices. The educational centre is divided into six university centres including health sciences, technology, natural sciences and law and economics.
