Sofia is the capital city of Bulgaria, situated within the Balkan Peninsula, it is one of the biggest cities in the European Union ranked at 15th. Sofia which is Bulgaria’s biggest city is also home to an estimated 1,228,282 people as of 2014. Sofia has a relatively high unemployment rate of 01.10% whilst the average rate for Bulgaria is 09.20%. Education within Sofia is very important, there are a number of different types of schools available for students to attend, which can either be public or private. There are currently 77 private schools, 8 arts schools, 4 sports schools and 13 schools for the disabled. The public schools within Sofia consist of 5 primary schools, 77 middle schools and 187 secondary schools.Sofia has a number of different universities and colleges that are available for students to attend. The higher education within the city is highly recognised as it is home to four of the highest ranking national universities within Bulgaria.These include the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, University of National and World Economy, the Technical University of Sofia as well as Sofia University which is one of the best top ranking universities within the top 4 percent of QS world university rankings as well as the top national ranking.
