Abu Dhabi is the capital city of the United Arab Emirates. It is the second most populous city behind Dubai. It is also the capital of the largest of the seven member emirates of the UAE, Abu Dhabi emirate. Abu Dhabi is a rapidly growing and developing urban area with a high average in come. The Abu Dhabi campus of the New York University was opened in 2010 with an inaugural class of 150 pupils. NYUAD functions as a separate liberal arts college within a university that offers complete degree programs. It describes itself as the “Worlds Honour College”. In 1975 the first government institution of higher education was opened in the United Arab Emirates. This was the United Arab Emirates University. It is centrally located in Al Ain but also has a campus in Abu Dhabi. The university has graduate and under graduate programs in nine different colleges. These colleges include: business and economics, education, engineering, food and agriculture, humanities and social sciences and law. They also offer foundation programs to prepare students for university studies. They have foundation courses in in English, Arabic and Mathematics and other support in making the transition from school to university.
