Napier is located in Hawkes Bay and has around 62,000 inhabitants. Napier is next to Hastings and the two cities are known as ‘The Bay Cities’ or ‘The Twin Cities’. Napier is the home to five state schools, a Maori teaching school and one university. The five state school in Napier are: Napier Boys High School, Napier Girls High School, William Colenso College, Tamatea High School and Taradale High School. Other schools in Napier include: Sacred Heart College, St Joseph’s Maori Girls College and Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Ara Houe which is a Maori language school. The University in Napier is called Eastern Institution of Technology was established in 1975 under a different name and finally became the Eastern Institution of Technology in 1996. The Eastern Institution of Technology houses around 10,000 students a year and around 400 of that number are international students. The Institute has 2 faculties, and offer courses in Humanities, Science, Nursing, Tourism, English, Business and Computing. The institute also offers Viticulture, Wine and Food Science and Nursing which are unique to the region.
