Who should attend this BCS Foundation and Practitioner in Enterprise Architecture?

This certificate is ideal for anyone involved with IT architecture, including those new to the profession. Anyone who is involved in any aspect of enterprise and solution architecture.

Prerequisites

For the foundation level there are no prerequisites, however for the practitioner level you are required to have the following. 

  • You must have obtained either the BCS Intermediate Certificate in Enterprise and Solutions Architecture or the new BCS Foundation Certificate in Architecture Concepts and Domains or have a current TOGAF 9 or current TOGAF 10 level 2 certificates.
  • Candidates should also have six or more years’ experience of IS / IT work, with some contact with architects and architecture descriptions. Training with a BCS accredited training provider is recommended.

BCS Foundation and Practitioner Certificate in Enterprise and Solution Architecture Overview

This course is a bundled course comprised of two separate courses:

During this course, candidates will learn about the essentials of Architecture concepts and domains. Next candidates will learn about Enterprise and Solution Architecture. This course is a combination of the Foundation and Practitioner courses for Enterprise & Solution Architecture and covers a wide range of topics including Infrastructure architecture, architecture management and data architecture.

What will you learn upon completion of this BCS training course?

At the Foundation level you will learn:

  • The meaning of IT architecture and the various levels within it.
  • Different kinds of IT architects and the roles they play in IT and information systems.
  • How architecture fits into the broader business context.

It starts off by explaining what Integration is and why it is so important to the functioning of any modern organisation. From there it moves on to the different approaches to integration over time and what is now regarded as best practice. A comprehensive overview of all the areas of an Integration capability is provided, from its delivery lifecycle and associated roles and responsibilities to a reference architecture for all the required functions.

The second day of the course is focused on providing a more in-depth understanding of the different technologies and technical standards involved and the considerations in selecting, deploying, and using them.

The final day looks at how to perform integration analysis to translate business requirements into integration requirements and specific techniques for identifying areas of re-use. From there it moves on to design & architecture and the various methods used to build future-proof solutions. The course concludes with a look at what it takes to successfully manage and govern Integration initiatives.
